Harrison woke up as he slid from his chair, crashing to the floor before he was conscious enough to break his fall. He grunted as he came to rest. Harrison didn’t bother to get up. He rolled onto his back and stared at the 1970s light fixture over his table. It was an ugly piece, rectangular glass pieces held together by thin soldered metal edging—two panes were missing, victims of their flimsy construction. Harrison rubbed his eyes with his fists hard enough to see stars when he let them flop to the ground on either side of his exhausted body.

“Well. That wasn’t what I had in mind.”

He tilted his head to look at the clock on the wall.

TGIF, I guess. No one will miss me for a while. I’ll sleep this off.

His ragged laughter rumbled into silence. Harrison rolled onto his side, stretching one arm over his head. He’d deal with the fallout tomorrow if he hadn’t convinced Smith he was okay. He sighed and drifted, his body desperate for sleep and restoration.
